What is the Montreal SMACKDOWN?
As always, when it swings in Montreal, it swings hard!  The Montreal SMACKDOWN is an intense, jam packed dance and workshop weekend with internationally recognized dancers and instructors Nina Gilkenson from Washington, DC, and Mikey Pedroza from Orange County, California!  It all takes place during a 3 day weekend in early December that focuses on pushing your lindy hop to new limits. With intense workshops and intense evening events, we’re pretty sure that you’ll have gotten your own SMACKDOWN by the end of it!

About Nina & Mikey:
Nina Gilkenson: Lindy Hopper. Belly dancer. Hair-removal Laser Technician. The mysterious figure that is known only as "Nina" has won many titles from prestigious dance competitions. But that's only a small part of her accomplishments. For instance, she can swivel in midair. She can simultaneously create vintage-style dresses and then destroy them while dancing. She can make 12-minute biscuits in 10 minutes. She writes upbeat musical theater involving funeral homes. And last, but not least, she is a part of the award-winning Lindy Hop team the Silver Shadows, which sounds like it's a group of super heroes. And that's what she is. A Super Hero--one whose main super power is doing swivels in midair. And one day, they might save the world. Until then, she lives in Washington D.C. and falls down a lot.

Mikey Pedroza: Coming out of the mean, but clean, streets of Orange County, California, Mikey Pedroza has competed, performed and taught all over the USA. Over the past 10 years, he has earned national acclaim for his fun and playful style of Lindy Hop & Classic Jazz Dance, but also for always dancing with 150% of his heart and soul to every song. He brings a great technical feel and fantastic energy to his classes while focusing on the vintage look and feel of jazz dance. Some competition credits include: Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown, Reno Dance Sensation, Boston Tea Party, American Lindy Hop Championships, US Open, and Camp Jitterbug.

Eli Smith, Producer/Host of Down Home Radio put it like this:
"The Cangelosi Cards are one of the best bands I’ve seen anywhere. They have a great live show, perfect for dancing! I envy any one who has not yet seen them because you now have the chance to see them for the first time! They keep it strictly real, playing traditional New Orleans style jazz, but continue to see at as a living tradition- and as such bring in influences from outside the cannon, such as country, blues, and early popular music. The level of musicianship is brilliant, bring your dancing shoes."

About Dell' Arte Multimedia Production Hall:
This spectacular venue was formerly a lebanese community centre at the top of little Italy in Montreal. However, 5 years ago, it was purchased by a very savy Belgian television, cd and music video producer, who transformed it into a stunning world class venue for all types of performances, recordings and video productions. It's now home to many special events, and world class recodings including albums by Diana Krall and Gregory Charles.  With over 3000 square feet of beautiful wood floors and incredible ambiance, we're thrilled to offer this world class venue as the place of choice for the weekend workshops and the evening concert with the Cangelosi Cards.

What is the Invitational Class?  Who can participate?
The Invitational Class is a class series set up to help train more experienced dancers, teachers and swing community leaders, so that they in turn can spread that knowledge back to the whole community.  This class series is by invitation only, and registration and payment is done seperatly from the regular workshop.  However, anyone can come and silently watch the Invitational Class.  The cost for watching only is $5 per class, payable in cash.  This class will start on time so do not be late.  Thanks.

Can I bring my video camera to film the workshops?
Yes, you can bring your video camera to film yourself or your agreable friends during the breaks, in between the workshops.  However, you can not film during the workshops, nor can you film the teachers, Nina&Mikey, at any time.

Will the workshops be starting and finishing on time?  Can I show up late?
As grown ups, you're allowed to show up on time, or not.... However, please note that Yeah Baby! events start and finish on time!  So, to make sure that you don't miss out on anything, it's probably a good idea to arrive for the workshop a good 15 minutes ahead of time.  It's going to be great!

Do I have to come for all 3 days?
No.  You can come for any combination of days, but we figure, why not make it a crazy party?  Best to do the whole thing!  :-)

I have questions?  How can I reach you guys?
